Due to rising water levels near the Matara grid sub-station, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has made the difficult decision to temporarily cut off power supply to the affected area.
Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has stated that this outage will continue until the situation stabilizes.
However, residents in Matara can rest assured that power will be restored promptly through alternative substation sources. The CEB has taken precautionary measures by arranging for the evacuation of its personnel from the Matara grid sub-station following the shutdown.
In cooperation with the Navy, boats and personnel are on standby to ensure the safe evacuation of CEB staff once the power supply is disconnected.
To minimize the impact on residents, the CEB will redirect power supply to the affected areas in Matara from nearby Deniyaya and Beliatta sub-stations.
