The National Police Commission has approved the promotions of three Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (DIGs) to the rank of Senior DIG. Among those promoted is Waruna Jayasundara, who held the position of Commandant of the Special Task Force.
The other two officers elevated to the rank of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police are DIG in charge of the Crimes DIvision D.Y. Asanga Karavita and Mahesh Senaratne who was in charge of the Matara and Hambantota Districts.
The Inspector General of Police made the promotions with effect from September 27, 2023.
