A notorious criminal known as Mahesh Kumara, alias 'Aanda,' has been arrested by Thalangama Police in possession of jewelry worth Rs. 5 million, which he had stolen from residences in the Thalangama, Thalahena, Mulleriyawa, and Pethiyagoda areas.
Kumara, who is infamous for his criminal activities and is listed as a thief with records in all police stations across the island, had recently been released from prison after serving an eight-year sentence for previous criminal offenses. Over the past four months, he had been targeting homes in the Thalangama vicinity, making off with the stolen jewelry before being captured.
Upon his arrest, Police discovered that Kumara was also in possession of 10,400 milligrams of 'Ice' or Crystal Methamphetamine, an illegal substance in Sri Lanka.
CCTV footage obtained by the police showed Kumara fleeing from a house near Thalangama with the stolen jewelry. He has been remanded by the Kaduwela Magistrate for further questioning.
