A gang of thieves who entered the Rural Bank in Vaikkala, Angampitiya belonging to Wennappuwa Multipurpose Co-operative Society, cut the safe in the bank and stole a stock of gold worth Rs.70 million.

The manager of the rural bank has made a complaint to the Crimes Investigation Division of the Wennappuwa Headquarters Police regarding the theft.

Police said, the thives had cut the grill of the window of the rural bank, entered through it, cut the safe in the safe room using machines and stole the stock of gold.

It as reported that the CCTV cameras have been installed in the bank and their DVR has also been taken away by the thieves.

Investigations are underway to identify the suspects by examining the CCTV cameras installed near the Bank.
