DIG Renuka Jayasundara, who heads the Children and Women's Bureau, has revealed that a disturbing average of at least five cases of child abuse are reported daily. Jayasundara expressed grave concern about the alarming uptick in child abuse cases during the first half of this year.
Simultaneously, experts in child and adolescent psychology have pointed out that the improper use of social media is driving children towards engaging in anti-social activities. They stress the indispensable role of parental affection during a child's early years.
However, in instances where parental affection is lacking, children tend to develop a strong addiction to mobile phones and social media platforms.
Meanwhile, police said that another dangerous aspect of social media misuse has been identified as encouraging children to use e-cigarettes.
