A shortage of aircraft has led to the inconvenience of passengers, with several flights scheduled to depart from Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake experiencing delays.
Yesterday, several SriLankan flights destined for Pakistan-Lahore, India-Chennai, and Bangladesh-Dhaka reportedly encountered departure delays at Katunayake.
This issue is not new, as there have been ongoing reports of technical faults and delays affecting SriLankan aircraft in the past.
The primary cause of these disruptions is the limited number of aircraft in the possession of SriLankan Airlines. Although the airline requires 24 aircraft for its daily flight operations, it is currently reported to have only 20 aircraft in active service.
Furthermore, two A-330 and A320 aircraft have been sent for long-term essential maintenance, while two A-320 Neo aircraft have been temporarily taken out of service and parked until they receive new engines from Airbus in France.
