Swimmers Akalanka Peiris and Matthew Abeysinghe competed in the Men’s 50m Butterfly Heat 3 and 5, respectively, at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Aquatic Sports Arena. Peiris secured 7th place in his heat with a time of 24.91s, while Abeysinghe achieved 6th place and set a new National Record with a timing of 24.58s.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan golfers teed off with confidence, starting their rounds at scheduled times: Thangaraja at 11:50 am, Anura Rohana at 12:00 noon, Mithun Perera at 12:10 pm, and Prabakaran at 12:20 pm.

Golf Manager Lal Wickrematunga commented, “All four golfers are strong competitors, but Prabhagaran stands out at the moment with his recent win at the Visakapatnam tournament. However, Anura Rohana, a previous Asian Games Medalist, is well aware of the challenge. Any of these players could turn a game around.”

Although their individual performances were commendable, with a total score of 213 compared to South Korea's best score of 190, there is room for improvement over the four rounds. Thangaraja scored 71, Anura Rohana 71, Mithun 72, and Prabhagarani 72.

In the boxing arena at the Hangzhou Gymnasium, Niraj Madhushan faced off against his opponent from Chinese Taipei, Kan Chia Wei, in the Men’s 71kg Preliminaries – Round 16 bout today, where he suffered a 0:5 (WP) defeat.
