An air passenger at Katunayaka International Airport who was attempting to smuggle 587.3 grams of gold jewelry valued at Rs. 10.2 million into the country had been arrested by the officials from the Police Anti Narcotic Bureau at the airport.

The suspect, a 54-year-old woman from the Kotahena area in Colombo, had arrived from Chennai on an Indigo Airline flight at approximately 3:00 am today. 

After clearing customs, she was leaving the airport when authorities arrested her on suspicion and subsequently questioned her to uncover the contraband concealed on her possession. 

She has been handed over to Customs for further legal proceedings.
