A motorcycle believed to have been prepared for the escape of Nandun Chinthaka, also known as Harak Kata, who is currently in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has been discovered. The motorcycle was found parked in front of the transport section within the CID premises.
The investigators' attention was drawn to an unattended motorcycle parked in front of the CID's transport section. This motorcycle was parked near the designated parking area for the Deputy Inspector General of the CID and the director of the department.
Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle had fake number plates, and its chassis numbers had been tampered with. Additionally, the fuel tank was found to be completely filled with fuel. Consequently, investigators suspect that it was intended for use by Harak Kata in an escape attempt.
However, investigators are facing challenges in identifying who brought the motorcycle onto the CID premises. It was reported that the CCTV system at the CID was not operational.
Meanwhile, the Colombo Crime Division has obtained a 90-day detention order for the four suspects who were arrested for providing transportation to the police constable who assisted Harak Kata in his escape from the CID.
Furthermore, investigations led by both the Terrorist Investigation Division and the Colombo Crime Division into Harak Kata's escape attempt from the CID are ongoing.
