The Colombo High Court Judge has sentenced a retired senior army officer to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of his cousin's minor daughter.
In addition to the prison sentence, which was imposed for an offense committed over 24 years ago, the judge has ordered the accused to pay a compensation of Rs. 250,000.
The Attorney General filed a case against the defendant for raping his cousin's minor daughter, who was under the age of 16, between August 1st and 31st in 2009.
After a lengthy trial, the judge concluded that the prosecution had proven the charges against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt and found him guilty of the relevant charges.
