Injured players Wanindu Hasaranga, Dilshan Madushanka, and Maheesh Theekshana have all been named in Sri Lanka's 15-member squad for the Cricket World Cup. This announcement came just hours before the team's departure to India for the tournament.
The squad's composition largely aligns with expectations, as selectors opted not to make wholesale changes following the defeat to India in the Asia Cup final. Notably, all-rounder Hasaranga, previously thought to be ruled out with a hamstring injury, is included pending his fitness assessment.
Similarly, Theekshana and Madushanka, both in the recovery phase from their injuries, have also been included conditionally based on their fitness progress.
However, fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera, still on the path to full recovery from a pectoral injury, has been left out entirely.
The rest of the squad remains unchanged from the one that reached the Asia Cup final, with Dasun Shanaka retaining the captaincy.
Dushan Hemantha and Chamika Karunaratne are traveling reserves, eligible to play only in the event of an injury to a member of the 15-player squad, requiring a replacement.
