Minister of Judicial Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reform, Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, has announced that the Treasury has received an interim compensation of $890,000 to address the damage caused by the Express Pearl ship.

This compensation is specifically allocated to cover the expenses incurred by the Maritime Environment Protection Authority in their efforts to clean up the polluted Sri Lankan coastline resulting from the ship's fire.

The compensation has been provided by the insurance company responsible for the Express Pearl ship.

However, the Attorney General's Department has also submitted a request for compensation on behalf of the affected fishermen. At present, it is reported that the relevant insurance company is reviewing this request.
