A stock of foreign liquor bottles with a market value exceeding Rs. 170 million, which had been illicitly imported into Sri Lanka, will soon be made available to license holders through a competitive public auction, the Finance Ministry said.
Acting Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya made these remarks during his inspection visit to the Orugudawatta Customs Terminal warehouse complex.
During his visit, Siyambalapitiya discovered a cache of foreign liquor bottles that had been unlawfully imported into Sri Lanka and subsequently seized by customs on multiple occasions.
Consequently, a total of 18,765 bottles of foreign liquor, which had been illegally brought into Sri Lanka and subsequently confiscated by customs, are currently stored at the facility."
