A shortage of the yellow fever vaccine has left 5,000 Sri Lankans anxiously waiting to receive the immunization required for their upcoming trips to African countries, according to informed sources.
The Health Ministry has stated that the vaccine is mandatory for citizens traveling to African nations from other countries. To address the shortage, the Ministry of Health has announced that 2,000 doses of the yellow fever vaccine will be delivered to the country this week.
These vaccines were procured through UNICEF, as confirmed by the Ministry. However, the current delivery falls short of the approximately 6,000 doses needed to meet the demand for the vaccine in Sri Lanka.
The shortage has caused delays and concerns among citizens who require the vaccine for their travels. Efforts are underway to address the shortage and ensure that all Sri Lankans who require the yellow fever vaccine are able to receive it in a timely manner.
