The Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera, has pledged to take necessary actions to compensate farmers affected by recent severe weather conditions.
He highlighted that extensive paddy fields, which were ready for harvest, were destroyed due to heavy rainfall.
Amaraweera instructed officials from the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board (AAIB) to provide compensation to farmers who suffered crop damage from both extreme drought and subsequent heavy rains.
The Minister added that officials are currently collecting data to determine the number of farmers eligible for compensation.
