The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has extended the early landslide warning to five districts, according to an announcement made on Thursday (07 Sep.).

The districts of Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, and Ratnapura have been alerted to the possibility of landslides, and the advisory will remain in effect until 04:00 p.m. tomorrow (08 Sep.).

The public is strongly advised to be vigilant for signs that may indicate an impending landslide, such as cracks in the ground, walls, or floors of buildings situated on slopes. Other indicators include the tilting of trees, electrical and telephone posts, the sudden emergence of muddy water springs, and the blockage or disappearance of existing springs.

The NBRO has categorized the warnings into two levels. Level 01 (Yellow) warnings have been issued for specific areas within each district:

- Galle: Nagoda, Baddegama, and Elpitiya Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSDs) and surrounding areas

- Kalutara: Bulathsinhala, Palindanuwara, Walallwaita, and Mathugama DSDs and surrounding areas

- Kandy: Udapalatha DSDs and surrounding areas

- Kegalle: Yatiyanthota, Deraniyagala, Warakapola, Bulathkohupitiya, Ruwanwella, and Dehiowita DSDs and surrounding areas

- Ratnapura: Ayagama, Elapatha, Kolonna, Pelmadulla, Kahawaththa, Kiriella, Godakawela, and Nivithigala DSDs and surrounding areas

Besdies, Level 02 (Amber) warnings have been issued for specific areas within Kalutara and Ratnapura districts:

- Kalutara: Ingiriya DSD and surrounding areas

- Ratnapura: Kuruwita, Ratnapura, Eheliyagoda, and Kalwana DSDs and surrounding areas
