In a recent development, Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara announced that the government will be launching a fresh probe into the allegations made in a video published by Channel 4 regarding the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
Speaking in Parliament, Minister Nanayakkara stated that a Special Parliamentary Select Committee will be appointed to investigate the claims.
During a Cabinet meeting held yesterday, the government also discussed the possibility of seeking international assistance to ensure a thorough investigation. Minister Nanayakkara emphasized that the government is committed to addressing these allegations and will not shy away from taking action.
While expressing his personal opinion, the minister noted that it is not uncommon for Channel 4 to release such videos around the time of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions in Geneva.
However, he firmly believes that the allegations presented in the video must be thoroughly investigated. Minister Manusha Nanayakkara made these statements in response to questions raised in Parliament regarding Channel 4's claims.
The video, which was published on September 5th, features exclusive interviews with high-ranking whistleblowers who allege the involvement of certain Sri Lankan government officials in the bombings.
