Heavy rains and adverse weather conditions have resulted in the unfortunate deaths of three individuals, while one person has been injured on the island, the Disaster Management Centre said.

To address the current rain situation, Level 1 and Level 2 Landslide Early Warnings have been issued to twenty divisional secretariat divisions in Galle, Kalutara, Kegalle, and Ratnapura districts.

In Nawalapitiya, a person lost their life when a mound of earth collapsed on them while they were constructing a parapet wall in the midst of the bad weather.

Tragically, another individual drowned in the Gin River while attempting to bathe, and a father of three met his demise after falling from Rakwana Duli Falls.

Furthermore, five vehicles were damaged when a kohomba tree fell onto Our Lady of Sorrows Church in the ja-Ela area. An elderly woman also suffered serious injuries and required hospitalization when the roof of her house collapsed in Kamburugoda, Bandaragama.

The Colombo District Disaster Management Unit reports that numerous people have been affected in various Grama Niladhari divisions, including Kolonnawa, Deans Road in Maradana, Grandpass South, Madampitiya, and Wanathamulla. Due to the slow drainage caused by yesterday morning's rain, these areas experienced flooding.

Further, fallen trees have disrupted vehicular traffic not only in Colombo but also in various parts of the island.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department has advised that rain conditions can be expected in the South West part of the island due to the activation of the South West Monsoon.
