The number of tourists visiting Sri Lanka has surpassed 900,000 this year, reaching this milestone on August 30th, according to recent data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
The SLTDA reported that a total of 900,708 tourists have arrived in Sri Lanka so far in 2022, which is a significant increase compared to the 719,978 arrivals recorded for the entire year of 2021.
In an effort to revive the tourism industry, which has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as economic and political challenges in the country, Sri Lanka aims to attract 2 million visitors in 2023.
Tourism plays a crucial role in Sri Lanka's economy, serving as one of the main sources of foreign exchange.
