S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, born in 1899, was the fourth Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. He held office from April 1956 to September 1959. During his term, he changed the official language of the country from English to Sinhalese and was also appointed the Minister of External Affairs & Defence. Bandaranaike was aligned with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and was assassinated before his term of office ended.
The 72nd anniversary celebrations of the SLFP will take place in Battaramulla today.
It will be held under the patronage of party chairman former President Maithripala Sirisena.
