Colombo inflation rate eases to 4% in August

In August, the inflation rate in the Colombo district, as measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI), dropped to 4 percent compared to the previous month's 6.3 percent, according to the Department of Census and Statistics. 

Food inflation decreased to -4.8 percent from -1.4 percent, while non-food inflation slowed to 8.7 percent from 10.5 percent in July. 

The Central Bank maintains its target inflation range of 4-6 percent. 

Previously, Sri Lanka experienced a peak inflation rate of nearly 70 percent in September 2022.
