Bus fares will be increasing by 4% starting tomorrow, as announced by the National Transport Commission (NTC).
This increase is in response to the recent rise in diesel prices, which have gone up by Rs. 35 per liter. The decision to raise bus fares was made after discussions between the NTC and representatives from bus associations.
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the fare increase, but it has been decided that the minimum bus fare of Rs. 30 will remain unchanged. Although the 4% increase would have required the minimum fare to be raised by Re. 1, the bus associations have chosen to keep it the same.
The Transport Minister has given approval for the new fare revision to be implemented across all 350 sections.
As a result, the fare for the second section, previously Rs. 37, will now be Rs. 38 for inter-provincial services. The fare for the 350th section has been revised from Rs. 2,296 to Rs. 2,388.
