The annual feast of St Anne's Church Thalawila, Kalpitiya was held on a successful note, with the attendance of a large group of devotees on 06th August 2023. The special service of the church festival was conducted by Rt. Rev. Dr. Valence Mendis.
As it has been the practice, the Sri Lanka Navy came forward to render its assistance for the successful conduct of this year’s church festival as well. Director General Personnel and the Chairman of Sri Lanka Navy Christian Council, Rear Admiral Damian Fernando and a group of officers and sailors attended the special evening service. Additionally, the Navy supported in carrying the statue of Saint Anne in the procession along the streets.
The chief prelate of St Anne's Church and devotees expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Commander of the Navy and naval personnel for their assistance, to make the event a success.
From the 1st to the 7th of August over five hundred thousand people participated to throng a narrow stretch of land on the north western coast of Sri Lanka to celebrate the annual seven day feast of a catholic saint held in a church over 250 years old.
