Tharjini Sivalingam, the netball star from Sri Lanka, has officially announced retirement from international netball.

Tharjini Sivalingam, affectionately known as 'Gene,' has had an extraordinary career spanning over a decade as a goal shooter. She bids farewell to her illustrious journey at the Netball World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa.

At the age of 44, Gene, recognized as one of the greatest netball shooters of all time, has confirmed that this World Cup will be her last international representation for Sri Lanka. Overwhelmed with emotion, she expressed her gratitude to everyone for their love and support.

Sivalingam's sporting journey faced a delayed start due to the north-east civil war, which concluded in 2009. After pursuing her studies in Economics at the Eastern University in Batticaloa, she discovered her passion for netball and joined the national team.
