The Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera, has announced that 15 Mega Watts of wind power have been added to the national grid in Mannar.
The wind power plant, constructed by WindForce and Hiruras Power, includes six wind turbines and was commissioned ahead of schedule with the assistance of local engineers.
This project is a significant milestone for Sri Lanka's renewable energy journey, as Mannar is known for its abundant wind resources. WindForce, which holds a 100% stake in the initiative, now has a total installed capacity of 245.1 MW, further establishing its position as a leading player in the renewable energy sector.
The Hiruras Wind Power Project is divided into two phases, with the first phase of 10MW commissioned on June 12, 2023, and the second phase of 5MW commissioned on July 21, 2023.
