Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera announced that two well-known Indian companies have expressed interest in investing in Sri Lanka's poultry and egg production industry.
Additionally, India's Amul Company has shown interest in establishing a dairy industry in Sri Lanka.
The Ministry is currently evaluating the feasibility of allowing these Indian investors to produce eggs and poultry within Sri Lanka, as opposed to relying on imports from foreign countries. Minister Amaraweera emphasized the importance of providing opportunities for foreign investors to establish these industries in order to ensure a steady supply of chicken meat and eggs at affordable prices for the people.
Furthermore, the Minister stated that if similar requests are received from other countries, he would also consider them, as his primary goal is to make chicken meat and eggs accessible to the public at a reasonable cost.
