Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has expressed his concern following the death of Kavantissa, considered Sri Lanka’s tallest living tusker, despite efforts by wildlife authorities and veterinary teams to save the animal.

He had earlier visited Kavantissa to see the injured elephant, which was receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to its right foreleg.

The tusker was found injured in a paddy field in Galgamuwa and was provided with urgent veterinary care.

Despite the efforts made to treat the animal, Kavantissa has since died, marking the loss of one of Sri Lanka’s most notable tuskers.
