The Sri Lankan Embassy in Nepal has urged Sri Lankans residing in or travelling to Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot and Chitwan districts, as well as areas surrounding the Budhi Gandaki River, to take strict safety precautions following a flash flood.

The flash flood, triggered by a tributary in Gorkha District, has raised concerns over potential threats to areas along the Budhi Gandaki River.

In a safety advisory, the Embassy urged Sri Lankans to avoid travelling near rivers, riverbanks, bridges and low-lying areas, while strictly following instructions issued by local authorities, security forces and tourist police.

Sri Lankans in the affected areas have also been advised to remain in safe locations until conditions return to normal and avoid unnecessary travel.

The Embassy further urged them to maintain regular contact with the Embassy, accommodation providers, travel agencies and tour guides.

People have been warned not to attempt to cross flooded roads, streams or rivers under any circumstances. Those instructed by local authorities to evacuate should immediately move to higher and safer ground.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Nepal remains available around the clock to provide assistance and coordinate support for Sri Lankan nationals.

Sri Lankans requiring assistance can contact the Embassy’s 24-hour emergency hotline at +977 985 1048 653 or email [email protected].
