The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the award of the contract for Phase III of the Baseline Road Extension Project to Maga Engineering (Pvt) Ltd at a cost of Rs. 2.89 billion, excluding Value Added Tax (VAT).
The decision was taken following the recommendations of a High-Level Procurement Committee, which evaluated seven bids submitted under a national competitive bidding process.
The project, proposed by the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, covers the development of a 0.86-kilometre section from Kirulapona Junction to Dutugemunu Street along the Colombo–Horana Road.
Under the project, the existing road section will be upgraded to a six-lane roadway to improve traffic flow and connectivity in the area.
The development will also include an underpass, signalised intersections, dedicated pedestrian facilities and improvements to the existing drainage system.
The project is expected to strengthen road infrastructure along the Colombo–Horana corridor and improve traffic management and road safety in the surrounding areas.
