The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has arrested Dassanayake Mudiyanselage Udeni Jayaratne Dassanayake, former Chairman of Lanka Mineral Sands Limited, on corruption charges. CIABOC investigating officers executed the arrest at approximately 9:25 AM today (September 25, 2026).
The former chairman is accused of bypassing established recruitment procedures and exceeding approved staff quotas to hire casual workers at Lanka Mineral Sands Limited during the 2023/2024 period. By facilitating these irregular recruitments, he allegedly authorized wage payments totaling Rs. 34,438,650.42 to the casual laborers, thereby conferring an unlawful benefit upon those individuals.
Following his arrest, the suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court for further legal proceedings.
