The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has appointed lawyer Habeeb Rifan of Oddamavadi, Batticaloa, as a National List Member of Parliament for a period of one year.
According to SLMC Secretary Nizam Kariapper, the appointment was made in accordance with the party’s rotational arrangement for its National List representation. Under the latest rotation, the opportunity moves out of the Ampara District, which was represented during the previous term.
Kariapper said Rifan’s decision to contest the recent Local Government Elections at the request of the SLMC was among the factors considered by the party leadership when making the appointment.
The absence of parliamentary representation for the Kalkudah Electorate was also taken into consideration, he said in a post on X.
Rifan, a lawyer from Oddamavadi in the Batticaloa District, will serve as the SLMC’s National List representative for the next one year.
