A large earth embankment has collapsed onto the Hatton–Bogawantalawa–Maskeliya–Balangoda main road this morning (20), completely disrupting traffic in the area amid heavy rainfall.
The landslide occurred near the Wanraja Estate area in Dikoya. Hatton Police officers, together with local residents, have taken initial steps to clear the debris from the roadway.
Police said the Road Development Authority has also been informed to remove the earth and restore traffic as soon as possible.
However, as there is a further risk of landslides in the area, Hatton Police have urged motorists travelling through the location to exercise extreme caution.
