Twenty Sri Lankans, who were arrested and remanded by Kuwaiti security forces for illegally residing in the country without valid visas, were deported and arrived at the Katunayake Airport early this morning (20).
The group had initially travelled to Kuwait for various employment opportunities, including domestic work. They were apprehended by authorities after fleeing their contracted workplaces to illegally engage in employment elsewhere.
The group was deported from Kuwait City and arrived in Sri Lanka at 3:10 a.m. today aboard Jazeera Airways flight J9-551 (JN-551).
Following their arrival, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) intervened to provide the returnees with the necessary transportation and financial assistance to help them travel back to their respective hometowns.
