Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga says his ambition is to win the gold medal in his event while setting a new Asian record at the upcoming Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
Tharanga made the remarks when the Sri Lankan athletics team arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport to depart for the Games. He has also been appointed captain of the Sri Lankan athletics team for the tournament.
Tharanga said he has several javelins that he uses for training and has been preparing with them in recent days.
A total of 23 Sri Lankan athletes, including Tharanga, arrived at the airport and departed for Hong Kong at 12:50 a.m. today (20) on Cathay Pacific flight CX-612. They are scheduled to travel onward to Nagoya, Japan.
