Organized crime figure Ranjith Kumara, alias “Konda Ranji,” has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after being deported from Dubai.

According to the Police Media Spokesperson’s Office, Kumara was taken into CID custody upon his arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.

He was reportedly arrested in Dubai on January 9, 2026, while allegedly attempting to flee to Italy. His wife and children were also detained during the operation but were later released.

Sri Lankan authorities are investigating his alleged links to several criminal and drug trafficking activities, including the murder of the coordinating secretary to former Minister Mangala Samaraweera.

Kumara is expected to be produced before court following initial questioning by the CID.
