The Sri Lanka Police Special Task Force (STF) yesterday (Sept. 1) commemorated the 42nd anniversary of its War Heroes’ Commemoration, honouring members who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
The commemorative event was held at the STF Training School in Katukurunda, under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Defence Major General K.P. Aruna Jayasekara (Retd.).
Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, retired Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police D.W.R.B. Seneviratne, and Inspector General of Police Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasuriya also attended the ceremony.
The STF’s roll of honour dates back to September 1, 1984, when four members made the supreme sacrifice in the defence of the country’s territorial integrity.
According to the STF, the names of 464 fallen STF personnel and six civilian employees are recorded in the roll of honour, while 774 personnel have sustained permanent disabilities in the line of duty.
The 42nd commemoration paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of all STF personnel who gave their lives or suffered injuries while serving the country.
