Police have warned the public not to be misled by fraudulent messages claiming that vehicle owners have been fined for traffic violations and demanding immediate payment.
A message currently being circulated claims to have been issued by the Traffic Police and states that a vehicle owner has been detected speeding by a radar system. It provides a case number and demands that the alleged fine be paid within 48 hours, while threatening additional penalties and legal action for non-payment.
The message also contains a link (https://govpay-lk.best/lk) to a website presented as an “official electronic payment platform” and instructs recipients to reply with “1” if they are unable to access the link.
Police have urged the public not to click on suspicious links, provide personal or banking information, or make payments based on such messages.
They have further advised the public to verify the authenticity of any traffic fine or payment request through official Police or government channels before taking any action.
Police stressed that members of the public should not be misled by unverified messages circulating on social media and messaging platforms and should confirm the source and verify the information before making any payment.
