Sri Lanka limited-overs captain Kusal Mendis has been appointed as the first president of the Sri Lanka Professional Cricketers’ Association.

The appointment was made at the inaugural general meeting of the association, which was attended by leading Sri Lankan cricketers, including Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamari Athapaththu.

The association has been established to provide an independent and collective voice for professional cricketers in Sri Lanka.

Led by Mendis as its president, the Sri Lanka Professional Cricketers’ Association will operate in direct affiliation with the World Cricketers’ Association, the global federation representing professional cricketers.

Similar associations have also been established for professional cricketers in countries including Australia, England and New Zealand.
