A tense situation was reported at the Magazine Prison in Borella late last night, prompting an immediate security response by law enforcement authorities.
According to Sri Lanka Police, the unrest began at around 10:30 p.m., last night leading officials to place security forces on high alert.
To bring the situation under control, the Police, the Police Riot Control Unit, and the Police Special Task Force (STF) were swiftly deployed to the prison. Authorities also tightened security measures in and around the prison premises to prevent any further escalation.
Police stated that the situation has now been brought under control to a certain extent and that security has been ensured within the prison compound.
The cause of the unrest has not yet been disclosed, and authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.
