Jaffna Kings booked their place in the final of the 2026 Lanka Premier League (LPL) after defeating Galle Gallants by 14 runs in the Qualifier 1 match played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday.
The victory marks the fifth time the Jaffna franchise has qualified for an LPL final, further strengthening its reputation as one of the tournament's most successful teams.
After being asked to bat, Jaffna Kings produced a record-breaking batting display, posting 242/2 in their allotted 20 overs—the highest team total in LPL history.
Leading the charge was Kamindu Mendis, who smashed an unbeaten 108 off just 55 balls, registering his maiden Twenty20 century. His magnificent knock featured 10 fours and seven sixes.
He was well supported by Khawaja Nafay, who scored 54, while Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten on 54, helping Jaffna set a daunting target of 243.
In reply, Galle Gallants fought hard but were restricted to 228/8 in their 20 overs, falling 14 runs short despite a spirited chase.
With the win, Jaffna Kings secured the first berth in the LPL final and will now await the winner of the second qualifier in their quest for another league title.
