The Government has taken steps to block access to 24 online gambling and betting websites operating in Sri Lanka without valid approval, in a move aimed at curbing illegal gambling activities and protecting the public from financial risks.
The action was initiated following a directive issued by the Gambling Regulatory Authority, established under the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL).
Acting on the notification, the TRCSL has instructed all telecommunications service providers to immediately restrict access to the identified websites from within Sri Lanka.
The Gambling Regulatory Authority said operating or promoting online gambling services without a valid licence issued under Sections 15, 16 and 18 of the Gambling Regulatory Authority Act, No. 17 of 2025, constitutes an offence under Section 44 of the Act.
Among the blocked platforms are several internationally known online betting websites, including 1xbet.com, bet365.com, betfair.com, stake.com, betway.com, 22bet.com, dafabet.com, 1win.com and others.
The Ministry of Finance urged the public to avoid engaging with unauthorised online gambling platforms or investing money in such activities, warning that users could face financial losses due to unregulated operations.
The Ministry said further measures will be introduced in coordination with relevant regulatory institutions to strengthen oversight of the gambling sector, prevent illegal online gambling operations and ensure greater financial protection for the public.
