The Sri Lanka Air Force has promoted Corporal Rumesh Tharanga to the rank of Sergeant following his historic gold medal victory in the Men's Javelin Throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The promotion was granted by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, in recognition of Tharanga's outstanding achievement, which marked a significant milestone for Sri Lankan athletics.
The Air Force also paid tribute to Coach Retired Warrant Officer Tony Prasanna for his expert guidance and acknowledged the dedicated service of Masseur Corporal Chandima Gurusinghe, whose support played a key role in the athlete's success.
