An attempted shooting targeting a bakery owner near Dahanayake Grounds on the Dehiwala–Kadawatha Road was foiled on Tuesday (04), police said.
The incident occurred at around 8:10 p.m. when an armed assailant wearing a face covering arrived on a motorcycle and attempted to shoot the bakery owner.
However, the firearm failed to discharge at the time of the attack. The bakery owner then engaged in a struggle with the gunman and managed to seize the firearm from him.
The suspect fled the scene following the confrontation, while the bakery owner sustained minor injuries, according to police.
Investigations are underway to identify and arrest the assailant.
