Continuous heavy rainfall over the western slopes of the Central Highlands has triggered multiple landslides in the Diyagala area, forcing the complete closure of the Hatton–Colombo main road, according to police.
The landslides, along with falling rocks, have blocked several sections of the roadway, disrupting traffic in both directions. Vehicles traveling from Hatton to Ginigathhena, Nawalapitiya, Kandy, and Colombo, as well as those heading toward Hatton from these areas, have been affected.
The Road Development Authority (RDA), together with local residents, has launched operations to clear the debris and restore normal traffic flow. Officials from the Norwood Road Development Authority said clearance work is currently underway.
However, due to the continuing adverse weather conditions, police have urged motorists to avoid the affected route and use alternative roads until further notice.
