The University of Peradeniya has announced the temporary suspension of all academic activities and examinations until further notice due to adverse weather conditions and the growing flood threat.

The university administration stated that essential services will continue to operate without interruption.

The decision follows warnings of a minor flood risk as the water level of the Mahaweli River has risen rapidly after heavy rainfall.

Accordingly, students residing in university hostels located near the Mahaweli River have been instructed to evacuate. Those who can safely return to their hometowns are advised to do so.

Students who are unable to travel home because of the severe weather may remain in university hostels, except for the Sarasavi Madura Hostel, after informing the respective hostel administration.

In addition, the university has instructed hostel authorities to maintain the necessary records for students staying in flood-prone private accommodations who seek temporary shelter in university hostels for their safety.
