Five motorcyclists have been arrested by the Sammanthurai Police for riding recklessly without safety helmets on by-roads near Al Marjani College in Sammanthurai.
The investigation was initiated using video footage that captured the suspects riding their motorcycles in an unsafe manner, causing harassment and distress to children returning from evening tuition classes along the area's by-roads. Utilizing this video evidence, investigators successfully verified the identities of the motorcycles involved and subsequently apprehended the suspects.
Over the past three days, police have located and taken into custody eight motorcycles that were driven unsafely within the Sammanthurai police division on the day of the incident. The arrested individuals, aged between 19 and 21 years, have been identified as residents of the same locality.
The Sammanthurai Police produced the five suspects along with the eight seized motorcycles before the court today, August 3, 2026.
