The traffic plan will remain in effect until 9.00 p.m. today to minimise congestion caused by the annual religious procession.

According to police, motorists travelling from Matara towards Tangalle should divert at the Meddawatta Technical College onto the Matara–Yatiyana Road, proceed to the Kekanadura Junction, and continue via the Wehella Road to Dikwella.

Meanwhile, vehicles travelling from Tangalle towards Matara are advised to turn at the Talalla Technical College and proceed along the Naotunna Road to the Viyannaruwa Junction. From there, motorists should travel via the Dikwella–Wehella Road to Kekanadura Junction before continuing towards Matara.

Police have urged motorists to use the designated alternative routes and cooperate with traffic officers to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles during the Perahera.
