Court rejects bail for Jaffna Kings co-owner and Another Suspect in LPL Match-Fixing Probe
The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court today (July 27) rejected the bail applications filed on behalf of two suspects, including the co-owner of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) franchise Jaffna Kings, who are currently in remand custody over allegations of match-fixing.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama delivered the order after considering a motion filed on July 24 by defence counsel K.W.S. Fernando, who requested that the suspects be released on bail on medical grounds, stating that both were suffering from health issues.
However, the court dismissed the request and ordered that the suspects remain in remand custody until July 31.
The case is being investigated by the Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Sports-Related Offences of the Sri Lanka Police.
The two remanded suspects have been identified as Manjot Kalra, co-owner of the Jaffna Kings franchise, and Yuvraj Pushpa, an Indian national accused of aiding and abetting the alleged offence.
Presenting facts before the court, investigating officers stated that the suspects are under investigation in connection with alleged match-fixing during the 2026 Lanka Premier League (LPL) tournament.
