The Department of Meteorology has issued its latest marine weather forecast, urging the fishing and maritime communities to remain alert to expected weather conditions around the island.
According to the advisory, light showers are likely over the sea areas extending from Negombo to Colombo and Galle, and further south to Matara.
Winds around the island will blow from the southwest at speeds of approximately 30 to 40 km/h.
The Department also warned that the sea areas off the coasts from Hambantota to Pottuvil, and from Kalpitiya to Mannar and Kankesanthurai, may become rough at times.
Meanwhile, wave heights in the sea areas off the coast from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to increase to between 2.0 and 2.5 metres. Fishermen and mariners are advised to exercise caution and stay updated with the latest weather information before venturing out to sea.
