Sri Lankan weightlifter Supun Dilhara Somathilaka narrowly missed out on a medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after finishing fourth in the Men's 60kg Weightlifting event in Glasgow on Saturday (26).

The 23-year-old impressed in the Snatch competition by successfully lifting 109kg. He then opened the Clean & Jerk with a successful 135kg lift but failed to complete his next two attempts at 144kg and 152kg.

Somathilaka recorded a total lift of 244kg to finish fourth overall, narrowly missing a place on the podium.

Malaysia's Aniq Kasdan claimed the gold medal with a Games record total of 273kg. India's Rishikanta Singh Chanambam won the silver medal with a total of 264kg, while Kenya's Joshua Amunga Mboya secured bronze after lifting 260kg.

The 23rd Commonwealth Games began on July 23, with medal events continuing until August 2. More than 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories are competing for 215 gold medals.

Sri Lanka is yet to win a medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
